Chef Michael Tuohy, a San Francisco transplant, indulges Atlantans with seasonally influenced, ingredient-focused Northern California cuisine at Woodfire Grill. The menu changes daily and features fresh organic cuisine. After several years of owning his own restaurants followed by years of cooking in restaurants around Atlanta and the Southeast, Tuohy opened Woodfire Grill, in the space occupied by Marra's Seafood Grill for the past 20 years, in summer of 2002.

Tuohy is a pioneering force behind Georgia's Organic Growers, and he incorporates the seasonal offerings of small farms and purveyors as well as organic beef, lamb, pork, poultry and seafood for simply prepared cuisine. Foods are fire-roasted and grilled with a menu comprised of tastes, small plates, main courses, and platters for sharing.

The focal point of the restaurant is the Wood Stone wood-fired grill, rotisserie and oven in the center dining area. The Chef's Table is adjacent to the grill and oven for guests to watch the chefs prepare fire-roasted and grilled cuisine. The restaurant's "Front Room" is complete with a fireplace and

communal table. "The Mezzanine" is made up of three joined rooms, which can be incorporated into one large space and seat up to 50. There is also an upstairs private room called "The Loft" that holds up to 16 people. Woodfire Grill also features an outstanding deck where diners can enjoy comfortable outdoor dining. Woodfire Grill's extensive wine list includes 20 to 30 wines by the glass. The restaurant also has a focus on cheese, and its French-made cheese cabinet features Artisanal and Farmstead Cheeses, including a daily selection of approximately six to 10 cheeses.

Tuohy was among the seminal seasonal ingredient-focused chefs of the late '80s. Both diners and critics alike embraced his Chefs' Cafe and the following Chefs' Grill and Ocean Club. Their closings were a major blow to the city, but the chef has been entertaining palates at stints in kitchens around Atlanta leaving fans eagerly awaiting his next move.
